SECTORS

MANUFACTURING

Manufacturing and especially process industries usually have many opportunities to achieve substantial savings, often in excess of 30%. Space heating, lighting, heat recovery from process, compressed air, extraction systems, pumps, steam distribution systems and other machinery all offer areas for savings.

FOOD & DRINK

Food and drink production, processing and packaging all have areas where substantial savings can usually be made. Product heating, pasteurising, cooling and drying are areas where ʻprocess integrationʼ can be implemented, this is where waste heat energy from one process is utilised to supplement the heating requirement of another. For example, heat rejected from chilling or refrigeration can be used to supplement the heating of other processes.

COMMERCIAL OFFICES

Savings in heating, lighting, IT and office equipment and air conditioning can be made by a combination of utilising new technology and staff awareness training.

SCHOOLS & HIGHER EDUCATION

Many Schools and Higher Education premises offer particular challenges with varying occupancy throughout the day and year, poor building fabric and poor control over heating and ventilation.

LOCAL AUTHORITY

Local Authorities have responsibility for a wide range of services from municipal swimming pool complexes to sheltered housing, historic buildings, museums and other public amenities. Stringent CO2 reduction targets set be central government mean that the complete range of energy saving technologies and measures including renewables must be considered.

SPORTS & LEISURE

Sports and leisure facilities, especially swimming pools are high users of energy. New technologies such as CHP (Combined Heat & Power), heat recovery and methods of operation can be utilised to achieve substantial savings.

HOTELS

Hotels consume considerable amounts of energy providing heat and domestic hot water, ventilation and lighting. New technology, especially occupancy detection can be used to minimise consumption without reducing the service to guests.

HORTICULTURE & AGRICULTURE

Some forms of horticulture can be very energy intensive, new technology and renewables can be used to achieve substantial saving in cost and emissions.
